Starting tonight and through the weekend we are opening for the Sterling Playmakers’ production of “Make ‘Em Laugh”, a collection of comedic one act plays by local writers.

Mission: Impromptu will be opening act I & II and we’d love to see you there. Tickets are $8 or you can buy a $10 pass for all three shows!

Friday, June 3rd – 8:00 pm
Saturday, June 4th – 8:00 pm
Sunday, June 5th – 3:00 pm matinee

Kicking Off 2011

…With a bang! We had a great show once again at Leisure World, tried a few new games, dusted off some old games and threw them back on the table – Got to keep the classics in rotation right?

We’re working on booking our next event and always practicing our signature form of madness in between – if you have any questions about the group or about upcoming performances, drop us a line!

On moderating our first mall show*

M:I is performing a Holiday-Themed improv show at Dulles Town Center Mall from 7pm to 8pm on a makeshift stage in or around Sears.

M:I has performed in some strange places. A crowded restaurant where we had to squeeze past the waiters and yell to each other from different ends of the room. A rain-slippery sidewalk in front of a bookstore that led to an EPIC (purposeful) pratfall and a broken hematite ring. The town lawn on a night so freezing, we gave anyone who stopped to watch free coffee. A raucous wedding. A Baptist Church’s Mother’s Day spaghetti dinner.

But, a mall? A shopping mall? Around Christmas? With wound up parents and their more wound up children? It’s a little intimidating. On the plus side, performing in a fixed location for wanderers takes M:I right back to its roots, and this time we’re indoors! Bring it on Dulles! I’m ready to attempt to get your attention.

*The tone of our little blog changes, because it has multiple authors. Dig it!

How to Play “Superheroes”

“Up, up, and awaaay!”

Superheroes is an improv game for 4 players, and has been featured on “Whose Line Is It Anyway?” The game is fairly heavily structured, automatically giving each of the 4 players a turn in the spotlight, which can be a useful thing. The scene will revolve around superheroes with strange powers invented by the audience and fellow players, and be very different from the normal superhero types…

Instructions:

Ask the audience for two suggestions: A superhero name and a problem that needs solving. Note that you should explain to the audience that you are not looking for superhero names like Superman or Batman, but rather newly invented (generally less powerful) superheroes like Captain Chipmunk or Lisping Lad.
The first player begins a monologue in the character of the superhero suggested, discussing the enormity of the problem he faces. The player should be sure to drop in at least one obvious reference to his powers suggested by the audience. e.g. Captain Chipmunk might stuff a lot of tools in his cheeks, while Lisping Lad would likely lisp through some words beginning with the letter S…

We have a little over a week until our Halloween party show at River Creek and we’ve been cooking up and rehearsing some fun holiday themed games for the kids and their parents.

So far our set list includes:

Columns (AKA: Pumpkins!)
Human Props
Left!
Slideshow
Sit, Stand, Bend
Day in the Life/DING! (Combo game)
Peeps (still need to rehearse this one…)
Spelling Bee
Dubbing (tentative)
Countdown

I think that’s it… but I’m drawing purely from memory and recording for posterity. Currently we have no Holiday shows planned for the November or December months, but we’re always open to the right opportunity!
